Using Scan My Rooms for the First Time

Using Scan My Rooms for the First Time

Before You Can Scan: Your Home Safety Profile

The very first time you open Scan My Rooms, you'll see a prompt to complete your Home Safety Profile before any scanning can begin. This is a short questionnaire — it takes about 5 minutes — and it's the foundation for everything the feature does.

You'll see a card that reads:

"Your Home Safety Profile — Let's customize your experience so you get the right advice."

Here's the plan it walks you through:

    1. Tell us about your home — Answer a few quick questions about your daily life
    2. Use ThriveVision — Let smart technology identify safety needs through your camera
    3. Get your safety plan — Receive a list of recommendations tailored to you

You can click Start My Profile to begin, or Not Now to skip for the moment (you'll be prompted again the next time you visit Scan My Rooms). Completing your profile earns you 20 ThrivePoints.

    Why the Profile Matters

Without a profile, ThriveVision can still look at a photo of a room — but it has no way of knowing who lives there. It doesn't know if you use a walker, if you've had a fall recently, whether you live alone on a single floor, or which rooms you use most. The result would be the same generic list of suggestions for everyone.

The profile changes that. Once you've answered the questions, ThriveVision uses your answers to:

    • Prioritize the rooms that matter most to you. The rooms you spend the most time in get the most detailed attention.
    • Understand your physical needs. If you've mentioned balance concerns, use a mobility aid, or have had a fall in the past year, ThriveVision will specifically look for things that matter in those situations.
    • Match recommendations to your home layout. A single-level house and a multi-story home have very different safety priorities.
    • Keep advice realistic and personal. All recommendations are built around your unique living situation — not a generic checklist.

In short: the profile is what turns a photo analysis into a personalized safety plan.

    The Three Profile Sections

The questionnaire is split into three short sections. You move through them in order — each section builds on the previous one.

    Section 1 of 3 — Home Environment

4 questions about your home setup and daily priorities.

    • Your Main Goal — Helps ThriveVision understand what matters most to you right now, so recommendations match your priorities.
    • Your Residence — Different home types have different safety considerations, so this helps tailor advice to your living situation.
    • Home Levels — Lets ThriveVision know whether staircase safety is relevant for your home.
    • Time at Home — The rooms you use most become your Priority Areas and receive the most detailed attention during scans.

Section 2 of 3 — Health and Daily Flow

5 questions about your general health and day-to-day independence.

    • General Health — Gives ThriveVision a baseline understanding of your overall wellness.
    • Sleep — Sleep affects alertness and reaction time, both relevant to fall risk and safety awareness.
    • Energy Levels — Helps ThriveVision understand how fatigue may affect your daily movement patterns.
    • Meal Preparation — Shapes how deeply ThriveVision evaluates your kitchen environment.
    • Everyday Tasks — Helps match recommendations to your current level of independence.

Section 3 of 3 — Stability and Movement

7 questions directly connected to fall prevention.

    • Balance Experiences — Helps ThriveVision understand your day-to-day steadiness.
    • Real-World Indicators — Identifies specific balance-related situations you may have experienced recently.
    • Situational Modifiers — Highlights conditions (like low light or carrying items) that may affect your stability.
    • Mobility Aids — Ensures recommendations account for any devices you use to get around.
    • Vision — Vision plays a key role in navigating your home safely.
    • Fall History — Helps ThriveVision prioritize the most critical safety improvements.
    • Safety Features Already in Place — Avoids recommending things you have already done and focuses on genuine gaps.

After You Submit: Your Personalized Profile Summary

Once you click Complete Assessment, SeniorThrive processes your answers (this takes just a moment) and then shows you a Personalized Profile Summary — a clean recap of everything you shared, organized by the three sections.

Below your summary, you'll see two important sections:

    Why This Helps ThriveVision

A confirmation of exactly how your answers will shape the scan:

    • Your balance patterns help identify where handrails and stable furniture matter most
    • Your most-used rooms will receive the most detailed attention
    • Your home layout helps ThriveVision understand room configurations
    • All recommendations are personalized to your unique living situation

    Your Privacy & Security

    • All information is encrypted and secure
    • Used only to personalize your safety recommendations
    • Never shared without your explicit permission
    • You can update or delete your information at any time

From here, you'll see a prompt: "Ready to scan? Now you can proceed to your ThriveVision Room Safety Scan with personalized insights!"

Click Continue to Room Safety Scan to begin scanning your rooms, or Edit Answers if you'd like to revisit anything before moving on.

What Happens If You Skip the Profile?

You can click Not Now on the initial profile prompt. If you do:

    • You'll be redirected away from the Scan My Rooms page
    • The next time you visit Scan My Rooms, the profile prompt will appear again
    • You won't be able to complete a room scan or view Room Scan History until the profile is finished
    • The 20 ThrivePoints for completing your profile won't be awarded until it's done

The profile is designed to be completed just once. After that, your answers are saved and used automatically for every future scan. You can update your answers anytime from your profile settings if your situation changes.
